Just wanted to share my birth journey with you. A friend of mine shared your profile with me when I was 35 weeks pregnant. I thought it was way too late to be starting to educate myself, girl was I wrong!
I initially had the “whatever happens happens” thought process, but after seeing your page I learnt that was a bad way to look at things being so uneducated! I was advised by my doctor I would need to be induced at 39+5 for the safety of the baby, I quickly turned this down thanks to you!
I then had my 40 week app & was told by the doctor he had booked me in for my induction at 41 weeks. He didn’t even go through my options, just turned up with a consent form and told me to sign it! I was so furious and again thanks to you, I told him a very stern no.
I began to stress when I was 40+4 that baby wasn’t coming but I scrolled and scrolled through your page & was confident everything was ok! Because due dates are trash!
To my surprise the eve of 40+5 my contractions began and my partner and I laboured for 5 hours at home before heading to the hospital (which I knew leaving home was the first intervention) When I got to the hospital I advised them I was aiming for an unmediated / no intervention birth but would do what I felt comfortable with knowing my options.
I literally “floppy face, floppy fannied” with only gas for 24 hours of active labour. My partner constantly saying each contraction “breathe through it & relax”. Unfortunately, I did end up having a C-section HOWEVER, I can not express how amazing my birth was for 24 hours of just breathing & gas! Thanks to you! The C section whilst it wasn’t what I’d hoped for, ended up also being great as I was so informed of my choices & options that I happily knew what I was signing up for.
So thank you, for all your time & education - you literally transformed my birth into an empowering journey! Pic is my hero Fiancé and Bub doing skin to skin whilst I got stitched up.
