You don't need to be induced if you have Gestational Diabetes, if you don't want to be. Or, if you would prefer to be induced but at a later date than you're offered, you have the right to choose that option instead.
Induction is always an offer. Even if you're told that you "have to" be induced, you do not! In fact, although it's quite common for midwives and doctors to say this, in law, they are not allowed to! You can report a midwife to the NMC (nmc.org.uk) or the GMC (gmc.org.uk) if they tell you that you have to do something, because they are strictly not allowed to.
In order for us to make an informed decision about what's right for us, we need to know what the benefits and risks of induction, or waiting for spontaneous labour, might be. The best resources for information about Gestational Diabetes are:
The AIMS book, "Gestational Diabetes" - available from aims.org.uk/shop
The Midwife's Cauldron episode on Gestational Diabetes - Link here
We support you all the way - here is a link to Emma Ashworth who has lots of information about your rights and also don't forget you can find resources and more on our app !
